Rescue camp identified in Harbin, China, led by Li Liu. The life of the artist, a successful businesswoman who was born into a wealthy family, changed in 2006 when she rescued a dog that had been hit by a car. Since then she has dedicated her life to the rescue and care of thousands of dogs and cats.

After sixteen years of hard work and exhaustion, Li Liu suffers from detailed health conditions, including heart problems. Although hospitalization has been recommended several times by his doctor, the rescue camp cannot function without him. Formerly a rural granary, the warehouse where Liu Li now lives with over 200 old, frail, sick and disabled dogs is shabby and run-down. In winter, poorly insulated shelter offers only a fraction of the protection against the bitter cold of the harsh Harbin climate. Electric heaters are used for heating, but they cause humidity problems due to the melting ice. As a result of the cold and damp environment, both Liu Li and dogs suffer from skin problems.

As a country with virtually no animal protection laws for small animals, running a rescue camp in China is a challenge. Li Liu Small Animal Rescue Camp does its best to rescue and care for dogs from dog meat markets, slaughterhouses, bankrupt breeding facilities, and stray dogs. Without animal protection laws for small animals, nothing can be done to prevent more animals from being killed, abandoned, reared, raised and kept in appalling conditions. Dog rescue organizations such as the Li Liu Small Animal Rescue Camp and animal lovers are inviting the Chinese government to pass legislation. So far, although the Ministry of Justice has conducted several public reviews, relevant laws have not yet been enacted. How hard do people work in order to rise to a higher level in the animal world.
